Mandy Jackson why do you need to varnish over the acrylic paint? can you not just paint in oil over the acrylic?
donofan I can answer this live if you like....but maybe typing is as good... Yes, you can just paint over the acrylic in oil, but if you look at the acrylic under the microscope you would see it is very porous. If you use acrylic varnish to seal it before applying the oil, the varnish will make a surface that takes the oil nicely. If you do not, the porous nature of the acrylic tends to suck the oil.
donofan I use winsor and Newtons Acrylic Gloss Varnish. The advantage of this is that the acrylic, with the gloss varnish applied will be virtually indistinguishable from the oil, thus you will not need to paint the oil over the whole canvas,,,you can keep the pieces that work well.
donofan I (matthew) made a water statue called a flowform with water circulating making flow and sound. We dont have it on because of water restrictions.
donofan The flow form shape here is a circular bowl (big salad bowl size) with water circulating and flowing over a waterfall awayfrom you into the pond
