The Work OF the Irish School Continues in 2019

The work of the Irish School continues in 2019.  This time with an opportunity for some of our students to exhibit (and sell) some of their works at the RDS this November.  The School is taking two stands at the Art Source Fair opening 14th November and running through to 17th November 2019.  You can apply to Susan for tickets by sending her an email.  Term 3, starting in Dublin on 3rd September and in Ashford on 5th September will be busy as students finish and frame their work, some for their very first exhibition. Others are old hands at this but it is fun to have an outing together.

We have also been busy digitising our film archive.  Keep an eye on the videos page as we will be up-dating it regularly.

2018 Exhibition

2018 ended with a huge exhibition of Kenneth Webb at the RDS.  As well the exhibition saw the launching of the Kenneth Webb Foundation which will carry on with preserving Kenneth’s legacy into the future.  Kenneth Webb turned 92 on the 21st of January 2019. The Kenneth Webb Foundation in association with Gladwell & Patterson, London hosted the most ambitious and successful exhibition of Kenneth’s Paintings December 13th – 18th 2018 in the RDS in Dublin.  The exhibition, Kenneth Webb and the Tec-Tank was a fusion of Art and Technology as Kenneth worked with his Grandson Donovan, to create the experience.  Over the 5 days they hosted over 1000 guests to 170 extraordinary paintings which traveled from China, New York, Florida, London and all over Ireland.

It was not a retrospective exhibition, although many paintings were from the late 50’s.  It was to celebrate his achievements now and then with 12 new huge masterpieces that Kenneth painted in 2018 while being videoed by Donovan.  The videos were displayed next to the paintings showing a glimpse of a truly great artist of 92, during the creation process.  A remarkable experience.  Guests came smiling and left with even bigger smiles.

2016 Schedule Now Available

This year, Kenneth Webb is spending less time in Ireland and has decided to increase his classes when he is over! Susan and Kenneth co-teach many classes together in Wicklow at the RiverRun Studio and these places will be taken up quickly.

Susan Webb and Kenneth Webb were fortunate to have another exhibition in London at Gladwell and Pattersons.

The exhibition was a great success containing many new paintings of both artists. Kenneth at 88 is still painting 8 hours a day and fully active in all aspects of the school and galleries. He does not slow down and continues to innovate with his painting, never staying still.

Gladwell’s is a exceptional gallery in the heart of the Knightsbridge, carrying with them a long history of Gladwell’s and W.H. Pattersons. It is run by some very nice people. If you can not make the opening, do stop into the Gallery, Glenn Fuller and the staff will always be most helpful.

RiverRun Studio continues to develop its special themed classes. This year we are looking at Irish Impressionism to Expressionism with special emphasis on Humbert Craig and Yeats. In the winter months when going outside is difficult because of the weather, we will concentrate on an in-depth study of Cubism as applied to Still Life. We will also discover the application of Cubism to Irish Landscape Painting. These modules are particularly useful for students thinking of venturing into the world of Abstraction and developing a more subjective approach to their painting.
