Currently the Irish School of Landscape Painting has permament studios in Ashford, Co. Wicklow, also in Ballsbridge, Dublin as well as Ballinaboy Studio near to Clifden, Connemara. This gives students a wide range of scenery to choose from when they book for plein air painting classes. The lush fields, wooded valleys and tumbling streams of Co. Wicklow, along with both the Dublin and Wicklow Mountain ranges all within 40 minutes easy drive of Ashford, and the re-known Mount Usher Gardens actually in the village, to the open bogs and wild Atlantic Way of Connemara (Ballinaboy Studio is only two miles away from the magic Coral Strand and half a mile from the Marconi Bog where Alcock and Brown crash landed a century ago), or the cityscapes, parks, canals and strands of South Dublin.
Each studio is fully equipped with art supplies, easels, stool, everything that is needed for a complete painting experience. The studios are always available in case of inclement (or un-enticing) weather. The Ashford Studio is set within 12 acres of private woodland and garden, running alongside the River Vartry, just a mile upstream from the Mount Usher Gardens. The Connemara studio is set in an enclosed one acre garden sheltering behind high walls, bursting with specially laid out flower beds and paths, with a pond at its centre. It has been the summer retreat of Kenneth Webb for decades and has inspired most of his amazing garden paintings. His garden is like a jewel set into the surrounding blanket bog. The beautiful coast-line running to Roundstone past the Coral Strand and Dogs Bay lies at the garden gate. No time need be wasted travelling to truly awesome painting sites. They surround the studios. Whilst the Dublin studio is located in a very quiet cul-de-sac just off the Merrion Road, five minutes walk from the DART, ten from the RDS. A very convenient location, many painting sites available near-by and a quiet, spacious, bright place to process our summer sketches into finished framed pieces of art.
